Last Saturday's match in aid of 'The Max Levene Trust' proved an entertaining and worthy occasion for everyone involved.

Penryn RFC hosted the game, part of a programme of events to raise monies in support of Max Levene, a pupil at Truro School, whose neck was broken during a school rugby match last October.

A strong British Legends side, led by former Bath and England hooker Graham Dawe, showed their class against a spirited Cornwall Legends team sprinkled with players from the County Championship winning sides of 1991 and 1999.

Graham Whitmore, Truro School's Director of Sport, who made many of the arrangements for the match, thanked everyone from the rugby community who had responded so positively in support of Max.

Former Pirates players involved in the match were Steve Berryman, Mark Murley, Dave Sibson, Ricky Pellow, Jason Atkinson, Alan Milliner and Brian Andrew, whilst Robert Durrant was a member of the vital physio team!

Current 'Cornish Pirates' Alan Paver, Paul Andrew and Rob Elloway also ran a stall during the afternoon, photos were taken by Brian Tempest and Simon Bryant, and Phil Westren worked the PA System and provided commentary.

One of the world's leading referees, Chris White, was the man with the whistle, assisted by Ian Pengelly and Nigel Strawbridge from the Cornwall Rugby Referees Society.
