Mazey Day Trophy Parade

Pirates On Parade At Mazey Day - Penzance June 26th 2010

Following the inimitable Falmouth Marine Band - dressed for the day in splendid red uniforms - the Cornish Pirates formed part of the 1pm 'Dinner Parade' from St. John's Hall

The lengthy parade - which featured many local schoolchildren carrying giant imagery and wearing colourful and amazing costumes - wend its way through the town, down Market Jew Street and back again.

It was an opportune time for members of the squad to display the British & Irish Cup they proudly won after beating Munster at Camborne in May, their presence and that of the trophy was well received.

Two new members of the Cornish Pirates squad, lock Ian Nimmo and flanker Phil Burgess, must have wondered what was in store, but were very impressed.

Paul Wickes and the Falmouth Marine Band were superb, as ever, and deserve huge credit for all that they do about the Duchy.

The band was often in 'tune', the singing was great, and occasional and impromptu stops to fire their cannon caused hilarity when a large puff of smoke from the barrel - feathers - was followed by a poor old chicken - okay, only a rubber one - who is clearly well used to the routine!
