The Cornish Pirates media officer, Phil Westren, has recorded the song 'Pirates Ahoy!' with the popular Cornish Wurzells.

'Pirates Ahoy!' was played at certain times over the tannoy system last season when the the Pirates played at home, and with the words and music provided by the Cornish Wurzells it appeared well received.

The song was last week aired on the afternoon show presented by BBC Radio Cornwall's Martin Baillie, when listeners were asked to name the singer.

There were numerous phone calls suggesting certain names, including those of 'Jethro', Ted Gundry, Jim Davidson, Benjamin Luxon, and Alan Opie, but the answer, named by many, was that of Phil Westren.

Phil advised that he has been contacted some months ago by Russell Holland from the Cornish Wurzells, who suggested he sing the song.

The answer given was 'yes', and the actual recording then took place at Russell's studio at Townshend, near Hayle, which literally took just a few minutes.

A 'Pirates Ahoy!' CD is now available priced £3, with it decided that all proceeds go to Cornwall Hospice Care.
