BEN ANSWERS THE CALL

Ben Jones Signs

16th September 2009

Following the knee injury suffered by Gavin Cattle against Moseley on Sunday, the Cornish Pirates have reacted quickly and can confirm that scrum-half Ben Jones has been signed on a short term deal.

Rhodri McAtee and Jimmy Moore are available to provide scrum-half cover for this Friday's fixture away to Doncaster, but there is every likelihood that Jones will be prepared and ready to make the match '22' for Sunday week's home game versus Coventry.

26 years old Jones has had spells with Northampton and Doncaster in the past, and was last season with Premiership side Worcester Warriors for whom he made five appearances. He has also played for the England Sevens team.

Jones had recently trained at Moseley's Billesley Common base, and had looked likely to sign for the Midlanders, but this did not materialise.

Commenting with regard to Ben Jones answering the Pirates call to provide suitable scrum-half cover, Cornish Pirates CEO Rod Coward said:

“Ben Jones is a proven quality player and I was delighted when he agreed to join us at such short notice. I have no doubt that he will prove a very able replacement during Gavin Cattle’s temporary absence.”
