MIXED TEAM WINS BEACH TOURNAMENT

Cornish Pirates community coaches Mike Crump and Leon Pohe recently took some members of the Penzance and Newlyn RFC girls rugby team to Lusty Glaze beach to compete in an RFU 'Play on - 02 Scrum on the Beach' tag rugby tournament.
A total of 23 teams participated in the event, there five players per side and three replacements.
Besides Mike, Leon, and the girls from the Pirates, Leon's son, who plays his youth rugby at Redruth, also joined in.
The Pirates mixed representative team finished top of their pool of six, and then played in a play-off which saw them qualify for the 'Plate' semi-final which they won 11-7.
In the final the team emerged narrow 7-5 victors against a young Welsh side from Newport.
