Last Thursday saw Pirates under 15 girls rugby team travel up to Liskeard and play the under 15 Liskeard Leopards side. This was a return fixture after Pirates played and won at the Mennaye field Penzance.
The team traveled up in the Pirates Learning Zone mini bus with team coach Mike Crump the Cornish Pirates Community Development Officer and Pirates Learning Zone Center Manager Kevin Jackson who is a sponsor to the girls squad.
The girls played a full 13 a side game on a full pitch and used the space wisely with some great individual runs and some good skills shown throughout the game.
Kevin Jackson who’s sponsors the girls said “it was my first chance to see the girls play. I have seen the hard work Mike and the girls have put in throughout the season, but to see the girls in the Pirates colours playing was a credit to the club.

Eventually with a lot of pressure being put on the Pirates scrum the Leopards broke off and scored but failed to convert. Pirates replied before the half time break with a push over try from Emma Bisson.
After half time the Leopards applied all of the pressure for the first 7 minutes. The Pirates denfence eventually was broken and the Leopards scored 2 unconverted tries within a few minutes.
Pirates responded with a try from a great run from Laura Wood who offloaded to Sibel Kandemir to make the score 10-15. Both team then scored tries to make the final score 20-30 to Leopards with Jenny Mcguire scoring the Pirates other trys.
Coach Mike Crump said “this was a great game of girls rugby and both teams really benefited
