On Sunday the Penzance and Newlyn Pirates girls squad met at the Mennaye field to attend the clubs registration day.
The squad this year consist of a under 15 and under 18 team with Mike Crump the Cornish Pirates Community Development Officer as Head coach, Leon Pohe a Cornish Pirates Community Coach and Mike Dale part of the Cornish Pirates Learning Zone staff as assistant coaches.
The girls did an exhibition training session on the Mennaye last Sunday with all youth teams of the Penzance and Newlyn juniors training along side.
Head Coach Mike Crump said
“we are looking to build the squad this season by going into schools and delivering some taster sessions, so girls can come down to the club and already have all of the details they need.
We played some competitive games last season with some good results, but it is time to take on the new league and the teams we play this season and produce some good rugby players along with good results.”
“We are grateful to The Framing Company Stable Hobba Newlyn and The Cornish Pirates Learning Zone for sponsoring the squad this season.
The girls have new shirts that are being launched next week, use of the Pirates Learning Zone mini bus and the classroom for meetings and analysis.”
The girls squad train Wednesdays 4:15-5:30pm at the Mennaye field Penzance.
