A
number of students from Penair School, Truro, have this week attended the Cornish
Pirates training base at the Mennaye Field, Penzance. The
purpose of the visit, which formed part of their 'Curriculum Enrichment' week
programme, related to a course they enrolled on which was called 'A week in the
life of a professional rugby player'. Such activities include
team work, ball handling skills, communication, problem solving, studying food
and diet, and improving ability.
After
watching the Pirates train the students themselves took part in a coaching session
taken by Cornish Pirates forwards coach Ian Davies, who was assisted by players
Ben Gulliver and Rob Cook. The students also had the opportunity to meet and talk
with other members of the Cornish Pirates squad. Commenting
on the visit, teacher Mark Withecombe said: "The
boys certainly got a lot out of it and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Impressed
with the set-up, we were made to feel very welcome by the coaches and players,
and everyone involved at the club |
