The Cornish Pirates Player Development Foundation (PDF) is an important part of the Pirates community centred ethos and as such is part funded by donation & fund raising led by the Friends of Cornish Rugby (FOCR).
The PDF, now entering its second year, was established to offer a pathway to professional rugby for talented young players in Cornwall and to develop their potential in the Duchy rather than having to cross the Tamar to seek advancement.
In certain circumstances the PDF also offers this pathway to other talented individuals from outside the Duchy, however their funding comes from other sponsorship or parental contributions.
The PDF has proved to be a runaway success, the quality of training and coaching has seen the young players quickly step up to the mark, a transition highlighted by Tyler Gendall's unfazed performance (above) in the front row at Ashton Gate against Bristol.
The benefits have also been felt across Cornwall as the players not only gained important game time on loan deals but brought their skills to strengthen the squads of other Cornish clubs.
Five of the inaugural squad have signed for the PDF again for 2015/16 and two, Tyler Gendall and Marcus Garratt, have put pen to paper for two years with the senior squad.
Private donations continue to play an important role in funding the PDF and support however large or small is greatly appreciated.
We aim to raise £30,000 in the coming months to fund a potentially larger PDF and are in need of all the support we can get.
Please help if you can.
