Cornish
Pirates held the latest Tag Rugby Festival at Camborne RFC for schools from Redruth
who had been taking part in the latest block of coaching courtesy of EDF Energy.
The
teams invited had been put through their paces over 5 weeks by Cornish Pirates
Community coaches Floyd Barnett and Mike Crump.
After
learning the basics of the game, they were invited to the home of the Cornish
Pirates to play in their first tournament.
In
addition to playing in such a ground, Pirates stars Iva Motusaga, Nathan Kemp,
Rob Elloway and Dan Seal all came along to pose for photos, sign autographs and
mix with the children, answering questions on their careers. This was enjoyed
by all the kids, who went away with smiles on their faces.
The
standard was exceptionally high, with some schools showing some great skills and
organisation. All involved enjoyed the experience in some warm (ish) December
sunshine, the complete opposite of the weather at last weeks Moseley match.
Trewirgie
School Team
Both
finalists came from Group A, with Trewirgie overcoming an improving Portreath
side with some dazzling rugby.
All the winning team
and coaches were presented with a Signed Mini Cornish Pirates, as pictured. In
addition, both Trewirgie sides will be involved on the pitch for the EDF National
Trophy cup tie against Northampton Saints on Saturday 12th January.
Runners
Up Portreath were presented with a poster for this week's game, and will be performing
on the pitch at half time performing in an EDF Energy Tag Rugby showcase against
Sennen School, who were part of the first block of coaching.
