The Cornish Pirates have announced that utility back Jimmy Moore's ankle injury has not responded to treatment as both he and the club hoped and he has decided to give up his career in professional rugby.

St. Piran

It wasn't just the rugby that provided enjoyment for many at Camborne last Sunday when the Pirates beat Newport 26-20 in the British & Irish Cup, but also the club's St. Piran's Festival which celebrated all that is great about Cornwall.

On a bright and breezy day a former and respected Grand Bard of Cornwall, Rod Lyon, officially opened the festival event, accompanied by Welsh rugby legend Dai Watkins.

Youth Coaching For Haiti Fund

Following the recent earthquake disaster in Haiti, organisations all over the world wanted to do their bit to help – including the Pirates.

Leon Pohe, one of the club's community coaches, suggested that if Cornish Pirates players attended a mini-rugby session to pass on new ideas to youngsters, then in return the young players could donate £1 each to the appeal. The proposal culminated in a training session at the new all weather pitch at Penwith College last week, which proved very successful, raising over £200.

Cornwall Farmers' Protection

Thanks to support received from Cornwall Farmers Limited, the Pirates TV crew that film Cornish Pirates matches have been provided with jackets that provide excellent protection from the weather.

Cornwall Farmers Limited sponsor the Cornish Pirates and their Marketing Manager Matthew Hodge attended their last game when the much appreciated clothing was presented to TV crew members.

Blue Cow Pie

Following the morning training session on Tuesday, the players had a special treat awaiting them when they gathered for lunch at the 'Westholme' clubhouse in Penzance.

The players are always well fed, and on Tuesday it was a chance to sample an award winning pie made locally at the Fountain Inn, Newbridge.

Rock For Rosie

When the Pirates played Exeter Chiefs in the British & Irish Cup last Sunday, a half time collection for the 'Lauren Hoare & Rosie Howis Teenage & Young Adult Cancer Fund' raised £612 towards the very worthy cause.

Lauren and Rosie were two very special girls who died of cancer, and the charity is currently fundraising to build a unit in Cornwall which will provide both one-to-one care for teenagers and support for their families during treatment.

Captain Benbow

When the Pirates played Exeter Chiefs last Sunday, a number of Penryn RFC U11s, who took part in a half-time mini-rugby match against Wadebridge, enjoyed the chance to read a Disney book from a series being given away by the West Briton.

Player Alan Paver and club mascot Captain Benbow were also present to browse a few pages, and all felt the book was extremely interesting and stimulating.
