Ben Gulliver

The Pirates have taken the decision to loan Ben Gulliver to Leicester Tigers for a three month period from 1 September until 30 November 2010.

Cornish Pirates CEO, Rod Coward, said: “Leicester made their request to take Ben and much discussion has taken place to decide whether this was the right thing to do at this time.

He added: "We obviously recognise the impact this will have on the squad, but Chris (Stirling) and the coaching staff are confident that performance levels will be maintained.”

Gordon Bosworth

Our head physio Torquil Dick and sports therapist Jeff Till are familiar faces getting the Cornish Pirates team fit and available for selection. They play vital roles, as does consultant Gordon Bosworth who is a specialist in performance related spinal pelvic biomechanics.

Gordon spent early adult life in the Royal Air Force (1976-92) as a physical education officer. He commenced training as a physiotherapist in 1980, and also studied post grad with osteopaths and chiropractors.

Golf At The Cape

Forget golf interest in the forthcoming Ryder Cup, as locally the focus of attention was at Cape Cornwall Golf Club this past week, where a number of Pirates were given the opportunity to play a welcome round of golf at the scenic course on their day off.

Organised in liaison with the Golf Club's 'pro' Scott Richards, the players much appreciated the hospitality afforded them, but who, importantly, emerged as the winner?

Warrens

Ahead of the game with Doncaster Knights on Sunday, representatives from the Pirates gathered outside of Warrens shop on the Terrace last Saturday to issue flyers advertising the match.

Club mascot Captain Benbow, plus Phil Westren and players Grant Pointer, Tom Cowan-Dickie, Tyrone Holmes and James Currie, distributed the flyers and took the opportunity to converse with members of the public.

Italian Coach At The Mennaye

Ahead of their rugby season which starts in October, Firenze Rugby under 20s coach Nicola Checchi has made a return visit to Cornwall.

Nicola visited Penzance last year to learn some tips from the Cornish Pirates coaching team, led by High Performance Manage Chris Stirling, and he has been welcomed warmly back once more.
