The
signing of Jannie Bornman one of National One's outstanding
forwards has unfortunately hit the buffers in spite of the best efforts of both
the club & Jannie.
Pirates CEO Rod Coward said: We
offered Jannie Bornman a contract to play for the Cornish Pirates and at that
time he informed us that he would have no difficulties in complying with the various
rules and regulations relating to Work Permits and Visas.
Jannie
gave this assurance in good faith and it was only later that he learned that he
could have a problem in renewing his Work Permit.
He
immediately infored me of the situation and since then the Club and Jannie have
been trying hard to find a solution that would allow him to become a Pirates player.
It
now appears that all possible avenues have been explored and that, regrettably
and through no fault of his own or the Club, Jannie Bornman will not be joining
the Cornish Pirates next season.
We consider him
to be a fine player who would have excelled playing for the Pirates and we wish
him every success in his future career.
Our supporters
can be confident that whoever takes his place will not be a less talented or influential
player.'
