17th June 2009
It was only last December that the development of the Pirates Girls squad started, when funding from the Cornwall Sports Partnership enabled the Cornish Pirates to offer rugby coaching to girls in various age groups.
After a period of training, matches at U15s level were organised by community coach Mike Crump and interest levels are expected to increase significantly next season with plans to introduce an U18s side..
On Wednesday 17th June Mike Crump held a training exhibition on the Mennaye Nurseries field, Penzance, including a training session taken by RFU community coach Phil Morris.
After going through various drills and playing a game of conditioned touch, the girls and coaches attended a 'powerpoint' presentation in the 'Westholme' clubhouse, which provided an opportunity to show what the squad has achieved in such a short period of time
A light buffet was enjoyed, and an opportunity was also given for others present to consider sponsoring the team next season.
