The Pirates first captured the signature of Wes Davies back in July, 2004, joining from promoted National One champions Worcester Warriors, for whom he had scored 10 tries in 15 appearances in the season that had ended in April.
As a youngster Wes played football. Indeed, he considered himself pretty good at 'footy' and was a top goal scorer at school, but there wasn't enough 'contact' for him. His other sport was rugby league, where he started out at fly-half, before moving to centre and then full-back.
A grandson of rugby league legend Billy Boston, he was a product of the successful Wigan rugby league academy, progressing through the junior ranks to make 55 appearances for the first team.
Wes played rugby league for Wales in the 2000 World Cup, when they reached the semi-finals of the competition (bowing out to Australia from a match played at Huddersfield), and he also played for Salford in 2003. In between playing league for Wigan and Salford, Wes played rugby union for Orrell.
In his first season in Cornwall, his Worcester try-scoring exploits continued, and with 12 alongside his name he ended 2004-05 as the Pirates top try-scorer.
In the following season he soon added four more to his tally, playing mainly at full-back, but he was hampered by injury and departed the club at season's end having made a total of 45 league appearances in the Pirates colours.
Three seasons at Doncaster followed, with his form in 2008-09 being particularly impressive when playing as a winger. Indeed, Wes ended the season as a clear top try-scorer for the Knights on 13, two of which he scored in a 33-23 points win against the Pirates at Camborne in April.
Following this game, it was not long before the announcement was made that Wes (along with Gavin Cattle) would be making a 'Duchy return', which was well received.
Family is important for Wes, and he enjoys spending time with his wife Alex and son Joshua - which usually results in going walking, going down to the swimming pool, or trips out feeding the ducks!
