In
our very first home league game he wasted no time in showing his ability in the
match against Bristol, raising an already heightened start of the season pulse
to set up a try for Kevin James at the Newlyn gate corner. That game was lost
20-28, but his presence in whatever position selected has entertained and helped
us to a good number of wins since.
A
magician on the rugby field, Rhodri will drift in and out of space seemingly at
the speed of light, and is someone capable of scoring tries that others can only
dream of.
Selection
for Wales U21s in 2005-06 was a highlight, as has been playing for Wales in the
IRB Sevens. However, his most memorable experience was competing in the Commonwealth
Games held in Melbourne as a member of the Wales Sevens team. It is something
he'll never forget, and despite missing the Plate competition final with a 'dead
leg', he still finished the tournament as the joint top Welsh scorer.
Something
of a character, Rhodri, who was also a talented athlete and cricketer in his teenage
years, has settled well in Cornwall, and still tender in years it is likely that
we'll witness many dollops yet of the flair and entertainment he brings to enrich
our wonderful game.
His
dazzling displays saw him score 14 league tries in the 2006-07 season, plus selection
in the National One Dream XV.
Club
honours include being our 'Most Improved Player 2005', and winning the 'Monckton
Cup for Achievement' and the 'Roger Pascoe Cup' (as the 'Supporters Player of
the Season') in 2006.
