We
knew that Chris and Steve were proved quality performers, but as for Alberto and
Stan there would only have been a few aware of their pedigree. The involvement
of the latter in the Churchill Cup inevitably meant that we would watch that particular
competition with greater interest that summer, all of us left suitably impressed.
Stan
left University with a political science degree, the committed back-rower relishing
the opportunity to become a full-time professional player, making his debut for
the Pirates when we played our first home match at the Recreation Ground, Camborne,
a 'friendly' against Gwent Dragons in August.
Starting
his rugby at St. George's School in Vancouver, Stan played for his province British
Columbia when was in grade 11. He also played for UBC Old Boy Ravens, his father's
former club, and in 2001 he starred for Canada in the U19s World Cup tournament,
winning the Stuart Pegg Award playing at No. 8.
Ever-present
in the Canada team since his first senior cap against the USA in 2004.
