30/4-06 Pirates 47 Newquay 7
Following their success in the Newbury
Festival, where they lost in the final of the Shield competition, our side won
comfortably at home 47-7 in their last game of an enjoyable season 23/4/06
Newbury Festival report The Pirates under 12s produced their
best rugby of the season at the prestigious Newbury Festival, starting with a
good opener against US Portsmouth whom they beat by a single try. In the
second match against Bournemouth two early tries were scored to set the platform
for a worthy 21-14 victory, followed by a same score reversal as they lost to
Reading Abbey in the final group game, which was used to give all the travelling
players a game. The Shield semi-final against Wootton Bassett saw the Cornish
teams pack dominate, providing the possession required for the backs to
play to their potential as the side recorded a fine 21-7 win, one which set up
a final encounter with Romsey Wasps. It was a closely-fought affair, a late converted
try handing a jubilant Wasps team the Shield. All the Pirates players can
feel pride and satisfaction in their performance: a credit to their club.
