Pirates U14s Give Wellington The Boot

02/04/06 Pirates 52 – Wellington 10

The Pirates U14s are having an excellent season, and followed up their 29-27 win away to Newquay the previous week by convincingly beating tourists Wellington (Somerset) at home last Sunday.

It had been intended that there be a three-way tournament involving also Wadebridge, but the Camels were unable to raise a side. However, there was still much to savour in the one match played, it being a game well refereed by Nicky Brooks.

The Pirates’ first try was scored right from the kick-off when Kial Richards gathered and took off up field before providing a try-scoring pass to wing Tristan Nicholls.

Up front the Pirates were dominant, and following midfield bursts from Dean Fry, Samuel Stevens and winger Talen Daniels, the elusive Neal Hosking crossed for the second try in the match.

Wellington, to their credit, responded well and scored two tries on the their own, but thereafter it was one-way traffic . Kial Richards and Danny Toolan, who also kicked a magnificent conversion from the touchline, ran impressively, Chris Butler did well at the line-out and also scored a try, whilst the ‘tackle prize’ was shared by Kial Richards, Tristan Nicholls and Jamie Barrett. All 22 squad members played their part in a satisfying win.

After the game, Wellington demonstrated the fun of being on tour with their Kangaroo Court in the bar, it also involving laps of the Mennaye Field and kisses for unsuspecting ladies who happened to be about

At the close of the proceedings the Pirates U14s and U15s were awarded a plaque from Wellington, with the Pirates returning the favour with club ties and a commemorative Pirates shirt.
