06 Penryn 7s
The Pirates recently entered two teams in the Penryn 7-a-side
competition, both performing well. Following two wins and a loss in
their pool matches, the A team beat St. Austell 35-0 in the semi-final
of the plate competition, before proceeding to beat Saltash 31-7 in the final. The B team also won two of their three pool matches, but lost their
semi-final plate encounter 28-0 against Saltash. Try-scorers from the teams
throughout the day were Kial Richards (8), Tristan Nicholls (4), Neal Hosking
(4), Alistor Hutchison (1), Danny Toolan (1), Chris Butler (3), Jamie Barrett
(2), James Nicholls (2), Nicholas Totty (2). Kicking duties were performed by
Danny Toolan and Chris Butler. The Pirates coaches would like to congratulate
the players and thank them for their efforts this season.

U14s Give Wellington The Boot
02/04/06 Pirates 52 Wellington 10 The
Pirates U14s are having an excellent season, and followed up their 29-27 win away
to Newquay the previous week by convincingly beating tourists Wellington (Somerset)
at home last Sunday. It had been intended that there be a three-way tournament
involving also Wadebridge, but the Camels were unable to raise a side. However,
there was still much to savour in the one match played, it being a game well refereed
by Nicky Brooks. The Pirates first try was scored right from the kick-off
when Kial Richards gathered and took off up field before providing a try-scoring
pass to wing Tristan Nicholls. Up front the Pirates were dominant, and following
midfield bursts from Dean Fry, Samuel Stevens and winger Talen Daniels, the elusive
Neal Hosking crossed for the second try in the match. Wellington, to their
credit, responded well and scored two tries on the their own, but thereafter it
was one-way traffic . Kial Richards and Danny Toolan, who also kicked a magnificent
conversion from the touchline, ran impressively, Chris Butler did well at the
line-out and also scored a try, whilst the tackle prize was shared
by Kial Richards, Tristan Nicholls and Jamie Barrett. All 22 squad members played
their part in a satisfying win. After the game, Wellington demonstrated
the fun of being on tour with their Kangaroo Court in the bar, it also involving
laps of the Mennaye Field and kisses for unsuspecting ladies who happened to be
about At the close of the proceedings the Pirates U14s and U15s were awarded
a plaque from Wellington, with the Pirates returning the favour with club ties
and a commemorative Pirates shirt.
