Match Reports
16/4/06 Pirates u15s
36 Wootton Bassett U15s 15
Playing their final game of the season
against the touring Wootton Bassett team, our lads played some expansive and entertaining
rugby. It was a fantastic end to the season, with the visitors thanking
us for the brilliant hospitality shown them. Try-scorers were Shaun Cowlishaw
(2), Josh Oliver (2), Dan Batten and Trevelyan Dugdale, with Henry Mander (2)
and Tom Cowan-Dickie slotting the conversions. 2/4/06 Pirates
31 Wellington 5 The first of two games played by our boys on
a fine sunny day was against Wellington (Somerset), whom we beat comfortably by
playing superbly as a team. Scorers tries: Shaun Cowlishaw (2), Dan
Batten, Josh Oliver, George Pye; cons: Henry Mander (3). 2/4/06
Pirates 28 Wadebridge Camels 0 After a short break, the Pirates
continued their good form to again achieve a convincing victory. Scorers
tries: Tom Cowan-Dickie (2), Shaun Cowlishaw, Trevelyan Dugdale; cons:
Henry Mander, Trevelyan Dugdale, Kelvin James, Tom Cowan-Dickie. Following
the matches, both teams retired to the clubhouse, with the customary exchange
of ties taking place. Wellington presented our U15s with an engraved plate, and
they also presented one of their club ties to Tom Cowan-Dickie, who they described
as being an awesome player. Penryn 0 Pirates 32 In
atrocious conditions Shaun Cowlishaw opened the scoring with a try in the fifteenth
minute, it then followed up with two more in the first half thanks to the strong-running
Tom Cowan-Dickie and an alert Josh Oliver. Henry Mander landed one conversion. Penryn
tried to pick their game up after the break, but they were unable to cope with
Cowan Dickies power as he secured his hat-trick, with there also being one
other fine second half try scored by Gareth Bodilly. 12/03/06 Pirates
27 St. Austell 10 Playing on a cold and windy Mennaye Field last
Sunday, our side put the disappointment of their last two games behind them to
play some exciting rugby. They were 15-0 up at the break, and then went
to 27-0 in the second half before dropping their guard at the end for St. Austell
to score two consolation tries. Our try-scorers were Tom Cowan-Dickie (2),
Henry Mander, Kelvin James, Shaun Cowlishaw; con: Tom Cowan-Dickie.
5/3/06
- Pirates 0 - Redruth 42 A defeat was always on the cards, our opponents
too good for us once more.
5/2/06 - REDRUTH 46 - PIRATES 5 The
strong Redruth team were simply too good for our lads, the home side going into
the break 34-0 up. In the second half, however, our team fought back well and
played some excellent rugby, them thoroughly deserving a late try of their own
scored by Shaun Cowlishaw. 22/1/06 - CAMBORNE 15 - PIRATES 10 This
quarter-final of the Cornwall Cup was always going to be a hard-fought encounter,
and so it proved to be, the home side just about deserving their narrow victory.
Our two tries were scored one in each half by Josh Holmes and Thomas Cowan-Dickie.
8/1/06 - Pirates 17 - Truro 29 Due to county calls both teams
decided to play 12-a-side, the difference ultimately being that Truro had more
replacements to use than a Pirates outfit that tired in the second period. Shaun
Cowlishaw and fly-half Kelvin James scored early tries for our side, the first
of which Josh Semmens converted, whilst our last and third try was scored just
before the break by hooker Ryan Stanley who side-stepped and beat two defenders
to make the line. 11/12/05 - The team's last match was played
away to PENRYN, them putting in a mighty performance to win 37-5. Big Jack Vosper
crossed for three tries, with others being scored by Tom Cowan-Dickie (2), Shaun
Cowlishaw and Henry Mander, the latter also kicking one conversion. The
players would like to acknowledge their appreciation to Pirates' Academy players
OWEN HAMBLY and SAM BETTY for assisting with their training at the end of November.
Thanks also to ADRIAN EDWARDS (Team Manager of the Cornish Pirates) for helping
to arrange this.
Matches played earlier
in the season
The U15s fot their season off to a fine start with a 22-0
victory at NEWQUAY on the 11/9/05. Both teams played some fine rugby, with the
Pirates two new lads Jack Vosper and Ryan Stanley making good debuts.
The
first try came from Shaun Cowlishaw in the fifteenth minute, before a charging
run from Gareth Bodilly brought a second touchdown. Vosper's try early in the
second half came from a well worked drive, before Tom Cowan-Dickie scored the
fourth and last which Henry Mander converted. 18/9/05 - The U15s
gained a second victory when beating CAMBORNE 31-10. Tom Cowan-Dickie scored two
tries, while Josh Oliver and Josh Holmes scored one each. The final try came from
Shaun Cowlishaw who ran threequarters of the pitch to make the line. Henry Mander
converted all three tries. 25/9/05 - Travelling to a wet and windy
ST. AUSTELL, the big home pack made good use of the elements to win 29-5. Trevelyan
Dugdale crossed for our sole try, whilst there was bad luck for outstanding flanker
Ryan Stanley who had to be carried off with a suspected broken ankle. 30/10/05
- Our only game in October was on the last day of the month, a well prepared
Pirates team defeating a weakened PENRYN side 29-5. Points scorers for the Pirates
were Shaun Cowlishaw, Trevelyan Dugdale, Kelvin James, Tow Cowan-Dickie and Josh
Semmens.
