In this professional age, it is sometimes forgotten that the majority of sportsmen and women are amateur in the true sense of the word, playing their chosen sport for fun and and enjoyment.
Whilst the Cornish Pirates represent Penzance & Newlyn RFC as a professional senior side, below that level there are the Pirates 'Amateurs', the Pirates Colts, plus all the Mini-Junior teams.
In total, Penzance & Newlyn RFC provides facilities for over 300 rugby players.
A success story this past couple of years has been the introduction of the Pirates 2nds, the mix of youth and experience now referred to as the 'Amateurs', who play in the Cornwall Merit Table and are coached by Paul Greaves.
The Pirates 'Amateurs' are pictured in their new playing strip for this season, similar to the 'Retro' design worn on occasions by the Cornish Pirates.
