U15s Gain County Honours The present Pirates U15s squad has always been
strong as it progressed year by year, so it comes as no surprise that 10 of their
members have been involved in county training and matches this season Following
a county game against Somerset, the Cornwall U15s team recently travelled to play
Dorset & Wiltshire at Swanage & Wareham, from where they emerged victorious
thanks to a vital match-winning try scored in the last few minutes of the game.
Of a total five tries scored in the match, three were actually scored by
Pirates - two for Cornwall by Jack Lugg and Luke Cowan-Dickie, and one for the
combined Dorset & Wiltshire team by their captain Chris Nicholas, who is a
pupil at Bryanston School. After the match the boys got together for a photo,
the members of the Cornwall team due to play Devon next, whilst Chris is expected
to line up against Bristol.

Sunday 2nd. March 2008 Having beaten Penryn away earlier
in the season, the Pirates were hoping to ' do the double' on home ground at the
Mennaye Nursery field, in another match that promised to be extremely close. Conditions
were generally good, and the Pirates took control from the start, dominating all
aspects of the game. The relentless pressure applied, denying Penryn of
any worthwhile possession, inevitably led to the Pirates crossing the whitewash
after only 9 minutes - the conversion, however, going amiss. Five minutes later,
the Pirates pounced again with flanker Ben Robinson claiming his brace, and Luke
Johnson successfully slotting the conversion. At this point it looked likely
that the Pirates would ease away and finish the match comfortable winners. However,
a lapse in concentration allowed Penryn back into the game and as the first half
drew to a close, Penryn claimed a try of their own, and were also successful with
a difficult conversion out wide. The second half continued frustratingly
for the Pirates in much in the same vein, with basic errors being compounded and
resulting in the few opportunities being wasted. Shortly before full-time,
Penryn led an attack through their backs which looked to be well covered, but
managed to elude the defence to level the scores. The conversion to take the lead
and victory was unsuccessful, and the score remained tied, leaving the Pirates
to ponder what could have been in this game of two halves. Pirates squad:

Ben Robinson, Luke Cowan-Dickie(capt.), Taylor Wearne, William Banks, Felix Lovell,
Jack Nowell, Andrew Tester, Oliver Badcock, Kyle Moyle, Luke Johnson, Guy Hobson.

U15s 5 Truro U15s 13 Sunday 3rd. February 2008 On a wet and windy morning,the Pirates faced their toughest
opponents away at Truro - the victors of the match almost certain to ultimately
lift the trophy.Playing against the wind, the Pirates were under pressure from
the start and after only 4 minutes conceded a penalty which Truro duly converted.Further
sustained pressure from Truro saw them extend their lead with an unconverted try
shortly before half-time through their speedy winger,Aran Struminski. With the
wind in their favour in the second half the Pirates hopes were high, and they
responded almost immediately when a loose ball was gathered by Andrew Tester to
race over for an unconverted try. (Had the try been converted, the score would
have been a carbon copy of the last time these two sides met in November, when
Truro won by the narrowest of margins, 8 - 7 ). With the Pirates trailing
5 - 8 the match was still very much in the balance with everything to play for.Unfortunately,
however, the Pirates were unable to capitalise on the wind advantage and clear
their lines, and Truro continued to keep them pinned in their 22. Although
the Pirates defended valiantly, the pressure and frustration began to tell, and
as the game drew to a close Truro extended their lead with a further unconverted
try to seal victory and end the Pirates six year reign as county champions. There
was very little to choose between the two sides - save the bounce of the ball,
and the referee's call - our congratulations to Truro, and we look forward to reclaiming
our crown next year! Pirates squad: Sam Cartwright, John Drew, Jack Lugg,

14 Sunday 27th. January 2008 CUP - 1st Round
The Pirates, sporting their new strip, entertained Saltash in their
1st round draw of the Cup at home at the Mennaye. Having had all fixtures
cancelled over the past fortnight due to weather conditions and sickness, playing
conditions could not have been more perfect, promising an open and fast game.
Early Pirates' pressure saw them take the lead after only seven minutes with a
converted try. By the end of the half, the Pirates had extended their lead
to 27 - 0, with only some excellent defence by Saltash halting the onslaught.
Although the first half had taken its toll on the Pirates - with several key players
retiring through injury - the second half started strongly, with some fine individual
performances seeing them run in a further six tries. However, Saltash must be
commended for their never-say-die attitude and were rewarded with two late tries. The
Pirates now commence to the second round and defend their Cup title next Sunday
against Truro, in what promises to be a titanic battle! Pirates squad: Jack

U15s 14 Sunday 6th January 2008
Having last played Bodmin
back in early October at the Mennaye, the Pirates played the return fixture away,
under dry but heavy conditions underfoot.Unfortunately,Bodmin were only able to
field 12 players, so their numbers were made up through the loan of 3 Pirates
for the first half - Luke Johnson,Kevin Bodilly and Guy Hobson. The Pirates produced
an excellent first half performance, and as half-time approached had run in 7 tries
without reply. As the second half commenced, the 3 players loaned in the
first half rejoined the Pirates ranks, their place being filled by Pirates Kyle
Moyle,Oliver Badcock and John Drew. These changes helped to strengthen the Bodmin
side and the remainder of the game was far more closely contested with the Pirates
running in 3 further tries and Bodmin notching-up 2. Pirates squad: Kyle
Moyle, Oliver Badcock, William Banks, Jack Nowell, Felix Lovell, Ben Brooks, Taylor

U15s Wednesday 12th December 2007 At home at the Mennaye and
under floodlights, the Pirates were eager to address matters having recently lost
to St.Ives - albeit fielding a depleted side - at a tournament in Newquay. The
Pirates started the half strongly running in two tries without response, but then
indiscipline coupled with some poor decision making allowed St.Ives to remain
in contention, and both teams traded touchdowns as half-time approached.St.Ives
looked dangerous when they ran the ball, but too often their cause was not helped
by opting to kick away possession. After the restart both sides again traded tries, but
as play entered the last quarter the Pirates strength in the pack began to tell,
and they eased away running in a further three tries. Pirates squad: Sam
Cartwright, John Drew, Jack Lugg, John Hunter, Keiran Brownfield, Charlie Tokeley,

November, 2007 The Pirates headed up the A30 on Sunday to play the
Newquay Hornets, which proved to be one of those classic games of two halves. The
Pirates started the half looking tired and lethargic, and were starved of any worhwhile
possession.Newquay on the other hand were looking lively and tested the visitors
relentlessly with probing runs. The Pirates were perhaps fortunate to limit Newquay
to a single converted penalty by the end of the half. By the start of the
second half the Pirates had decided to play, and after only two minutes scored
through prop Sam Cartwright.Further tries soon followed through second row Keiran
Brownfield and a hat trick from capt. Luke Cowan-Dickie,with Luke Johnson sucessfully
slotting three conversions. Pirates U15s squad: Jack Lugg, Harry Hoare,
Sam Carwright, Jordan Oxley, Keiran Brownfield, Jonathan Badcock, Charlie Tokeley,

Penryn U15s 10 Pirates U15s 22 Sunday
November 18th 2007 On a damp and overcast morning the Pirates were on
the road again, playing at Penryn for what promised to be another stern test. The
home team took an early lead when one of their centres carved a scything path
to the line, the score acting as the wake-up call necessary for the Pirates to
duly respond with a fine individual try of their own, scored by 'flyer' Andrew
Tester. In what had been an evenly contested match, the Pirates opened up
a gap with two tries scored early in the second half through skipper Luke Cowan-Dickie
and wing Kyle Moyle, and although Penryn managed to respond with one further touchdown
of their own, a second try from rampaging No. 8 Cowan-Dickie, converted by Luke
Johnson, ultimately secured a worthy victory. Pirates U15s squad:

7 Truro 8 Sunday November 4th, 2007 The Pirates
faced their sternest test of the season playing away against a strong Truro side,
and without their inspirational captain Luke Cowan-Dickie, due to injury. Lack
of any worthwhile possession in the first half ensured that the Pirates were kept
on the back foot, and in their own half. Truro took the lead after 16 minutes
with a penalty as the pressure mounted.Shortly before half-time they extended
their lead with an unconverted try following a turnover. The second half
started well for the Pirates, and after two or three good phases of play were
awarded a scrum deep in the oppositions 22. No.8 Charlie Tokeley picked-up
and sliced through the defence for a try, which was duly converted by Luke Johnson. With
the game now in the balance both sides had opportunities to seal the match, but
the scoreboard remained unchanged. Pirates squad:

- Redruth U15s 0 Sunday 21st October 2007 On a
near perfect autumnal morning, the Pirates faced a confident Redruth side at home.
Redruth were on a 'high', having narrowly defeated Penryn the week before, and
started the match strongly. The Pirates cause was not helped by their
indiscipline, resulting in numerous penalties against them. However, although Redruth
continued to press the Pirates hard throughout, the homeside's strength in the
pack and speed out wide proved too much for Redruth to contain. Pirates
