Pirates U9s share the 'Plate' 20th April,
2008 St. Austell RFC hosted the Cornwall U9s County Festival on Sunday,
where a fantastic day of rugby was enjoyed by players and supporters alike. 15
teams were split into four pools, with the Pirates drawn against Wadebridge, Truro
and St. Ives.
The Pirates won two of their games, 3 tries to 2 against Wadebridge
and 3-0 against St. Ives, but in between lost 2-0 to Truro. Qualifying for
a place in the Plate semi-finals, the Pirates won 3-0 against Lankelly-Fowey,
before meeting Newquay in the final, who had narrowly beaten Saltash. The
final was keenly fought, it fairly ending in a 2-all draw, which meant that the
Plate award for this year was shared. Congratulation are due the Pirates
U9s who played some superb rugby on the day, their squad comprising: Tyler Tresidder,
Joel May, Joel Bick, Joe Lord, Jack Williams., Harold Ault, Harry Greenwood, Eddie
Hall, Drew Mitchell (capt), Daniel Butterfield, Connor Rushton. Redruth
emerged winners of the U9s County Cup. Hayle U9s v Pirates
U9s 30th March, 2008 Four players from St. Ives joined the
Pirates to play a combined Hayle/St. Ives team. The Pirates played extremely well,
their forwards strong and their backs eager to run, and although they won comfortably
there was still due praise for Hayle who showed commitment throughout. Pirates
U9s: Drew Mitchell, Eddie Hall, Harold Ault, Jack Williams, Joel Bick, Joel May,
Tyler Tresidder, plus Ebony, Peter, Corry and Luke from St. Ives
Pirates
30 Penryn 5 3rd. February, 2008 Pirates 30 Penryn
5 Both teams played some very good rugby in tricky conditions,
and although the Pirates deserved the win the scoreline does not reflect the fairly
close nature of the game. All the players tackled and defended consistently well,
but the Pirates had the edge when attacking. Some fantastic running saw tries
by Tyler Tresidder, Joel Bick and Joel May, as the whole team worked hard and
contributed to the win, with special words of praise for Jack Williams and Drew
Mitchell who had particularly good games. Well done Pirates U9s.
Pirates
Under 9's v Liskeard/Looe January 27th, 2008 Pirates
40 - Liskeard/Looe 7 A very strong performance by the Pirate U9s
running in numerous tries and conceding just one. Liskeard/Looe were committed
throughout and rallied strongly in the last quarter. The Pirates showed
some very strong running and good interlinking play. Their defence was excellent
and support for the ball carrier noticeably improved Try scorers were Tyler
Tresidder, Joel May, Joel Bick, Harold Ault, Harry Greenwood and Drew Mitchell.
Man of the match was awarded to Harold Ault who was outstanding in all aspects,
particularly tackling and ripping the ball in mauls.
