PIRATES COLTS MATCH REPORTS SEASON 2008/2009
Tourists Have The Upper Hand

Pirates Colts 0 Syston Colts 15
Saturday April, 2009

Played on the Mennaye Nurseries Field, the tourists from Leicestershire were particularly strong in the forwards, and always had the upper hand.

Centre Mark Johnson opened their account with an unconverted try, before the Pirates then lost the services of James Nicholls because of injury. The loss of the front-rower actually helped the home team's cause, as the game went to uncontested scrums. Also, by showing showing great spirit and bravery in defence the Pirates denied the visitors further first half scores.

In the second half the Pirates did well to pile pressure on their opponents, but without reward, and two tries scored by Syston's Mark Noble gave the visitors the win they deserved.

Credit must go to two Pirates U16s, Jack Nowell and Kyle Moyle, who made their debuts for the Colts team. Also a big thank-you to club stalwart Nicky Brooks who stepped in at the last minute to referee the game.

Pirates Colts: K. Thomas, A. Moore, J. Oliver, J. Semmens, D. Batten, T. Dugdale, S. Stevens, A. Hutchins, K. Richards, G. Bodilly, C. Butler, J. Barrett, D. Toolan, J. Nicholls, R. Stanley.

Replacements: J. Nowell, K. Motle, D. Penrose.
