February 2009 Helston/Camborne U12s 7 Pirates U12s 49 Helston
& Camborne seem to be benefiting from the clubs initiative to train and play
together as they were able to field a squad of 16 on a very cold and wet Sunday
morning in February, and the Pirates were grateful, as in six years of rugby this
was the first time the majority had the experience of playing at Helston. Eager
for a game after so many cancellations due to the weather, the Pirates kicked
off with the wind and immediately scored through speedy wing Jake Carley. It
was good to post early points on the board, but the combined side duly responded
to provide stiff opposition. Their initial scrummaging certainly posed a challenge
to the Pirates, and the backs also looked useful with possession provided. In
better conditions they will be a real handful for many opponents. However, whenever
the Pirates lose possession, their determination in defence often brings turnover
ball from which they punish their opponents - and so it proved, and they proceeded
to build a healthy lead before the hosts scored their one try in the match approaching
half-time.. With a Pirates squad of 18 present, coach Sean
Hickman was able to ring the changes, and although conditions were difficult, the
endeavour to nevertheless play enterprising rugby was rewarded, as all tries were
scored by the backs! We're sure however that all the backs
would acknowledge the graft shown by the forwards to win clean possession - won't
you boys!!!! Scorers -
Ttries: Max Berryman (3), Jake Carley (2), Alfie
Prosser, Henry Monk
Cons: Max Berryman (4), Jake Carley (3).

of praise for their enthusiastic team, but also grateful to Helston for lending
them players Nick and Jordan. Pirates U9s: Ellie Angove (capt), Ryan
Cornish, Kieran Stevens, Charles Williams, Noah Babcock, Liam Lonsdale, Matthew
Skewes, Jordan Nicholls, Rory Osborne, Danny Clemence, Nick and Jordan. Scorers
- Rory Osborne, Ryan Cornish, Noah Babcock, Danny Clemence, Ellie Angove, Kieran
Stevens. Helston U9s 5 Pirates U9s 50 Despite
the wet and cold conditions, both sides showed good skills on a morning when there
was an admirable response from Pirates Thomas Prosser and Connor Hart, who sportingly
volunteered to play for Helston to make up their numbers. Birthday
boys Matthew Ellis and Peter Williams also shared the captaincy role for the Pirates,
proudly leading the side for one half each in a game where Henry Trow's tackling
impressed. Scorers - tries: Conner George, Matthew Ellis, Lewis Sims, Daniel
Rhys Evans, and Henry Trow.
Helston U8s 11
Pirates U8s 16
Played in torrential rain and strong winds,
the two teams were evenly matched in the first half, as is accurately reflected
in a 6 tries each half-time scoreline. However, in the second half
the Pirates had the edge over their opponents, and ultimately recorded a worthy
win. It was a case of well done to all the boys who braved the terrible
conditions, and a big thank also to the parents present. Pirates U8s: William
Simons, Alistair Stacey, Ethan Wyatt, Daniel Tucker, Josh Storey, Jo Roach and
Mawgan Osborne. Scorers - tries: William Simons, Declan Marshall, Josh Sorey,
Mawgan Osborne and Ethan Wyatt

U7s 14 Having not played rugby for the last three Sundays,
the young Pirates were eager to perform and put their training drills into practice,
and although weather conditions were not conducive to flowing running rugby, they
still produced some outstanding ball handling. After
a tightly fought first half the Pirates were leading Helston by seven tries to
five. However, in the second half they stepped up the pace and ran in a further
seven tries, and conceded just three. Pirates U7s: Frank Adams, Harris
Eddy, Finley Gray-Williams, Jacob Gwennap, Tom Hands, Tyler Kearney, Thomas Morice,
Toby Osborne, Jack Rogers, Ben Wragg, Sasha Friggins. Scorers: Harris Eddy,
Finley Gray-Williams, Ton Hands, Tyler Kearney, Thomas Morice, Toby Osborne, Ben
Wragg.
