U16s Pirates 27 Liskeard/Looe 0

For the first away fixture of 2009, the Pirates made the long journey up to Liskeard for their cup quarter-final.

Weather conditions were dire, and the cold blustery showers never let up throughout. Eight minutes into the game, following sustained pressure from the Pirates pack, prop Jack Lugg crashed over to score from close range.

It was the first of two tries that he would score in the match, as towards the end of the half he claimed his brace with a similar try., Kyle Moyle added one conversion and the Pirates led 12-0 at the break.

Five minutes into the second-half the Pirates increased their lead when Moyle slotted a well-struck penalty, and although the appalling conditions dictated that there would a less than fluent game, the Pirates still strived and succeeded to at times play with panache.

Full-back Jack Nowell notched up the team's third try after making a fine break, and near the game's conclusion flanker Ben Robinson followed up to add one more.

The Pirates now march into the semi-final of the cup competition, where Penryn will be their opponents.
