U13s Win Their Cup Opener Bodmin U13s 0 Pirates
U13s 40
18th January, 2009 Travelling to Bodmin in the first
round of the Cornwall KO Cup, the Pirates U13s came away with a handsome victory It
very heavy underfoot, the Pirates played the conditions better and made less errors
than their opponents. The forwards 'go forward' made life much easier for the
backs. and the first early try was scored by Tom Holdsworth. Wing Sam Skinner
went over in the corner for try number two, and this was followed by one from
No. 8 Ed Holmes. A second try from Ed Holmes before half-time was a classic,
when he picked up and drove over from a five metres scrum to give the Pirates
a 20-0 half-time lead. Turning around and playing against the wind but down
the slope, the Pirates got their big centres running some very good angles, with
Lockran Williams blasting his way through for two tries. Using replacements
to maintain the pressure, Tom Holdsworth completed his hat-trick to ensure victory. To
their credit, Bodmin fought right to the end, and were only denied a score because
a resolute defence kept them at bay. Man of the match was shared between
Tom Holdsworth and Lockran Williams who would both be the first to praise the
job done by the forwards. | | Match
