21st December, 2008 Having had their
previous cup match against Newquay postponed the previous week due to bad weather,
the Pirates U16s made their way up the A30 on Sunday 21st December for their 2nd.
round cup match against Wadebridge. As half-time approached the Pirates
were comfortably ahead, but they then conceded a converted try for the score to
read 7-26 at the break. The second half of the match saw the Pirates build
on their dominance, and without further reply from Wadebridge they emerged comfortable
winners. From the Pirates perspective, although there was some fine individual
play - and some excellent place kicking from Kyle Moyle - it was a match that
highlighted that as a team performance there is still much room for improvement. Pirates
U16s squad:
Keiran Brownfield, Jonathan Badcock, John Drew, John Hunter, Mathew
Richards, Dan Dingley, Charlie Tokeley, Ben Britten (capt.), Ben Brooks, William
Banks, Felix Lovell, Chris Nicholas, Kyle Moyle, Guy Hobson, Andrew Tester, Jordan
Oxley . Scorers - tries: Andrew Tester (3), Felix Lovell, Ben Britten Pirates

21st December, 2008 In a game that
was played in a very good festive spirit, the Pirates U13s overcame their Camborne
opponents by scoring nine tries to nil. The young Pirates signed off
the year with their eighth win of the season, and in doing so played some excellent
open rugby. However, to be fair to Camborne, who arrived with only 12 players
(the Pirates lending them three), they never let their heads drop and tackled
really well right to the end. From the start, the ball was passed wide
for stand-in wing Ed Holmes to score at the corner. The pack played particularly
well as a unit, and provided the possession for more tries to follow in the first
half through centres Lockran Williams (3) and Tom Holdsworth (2). Ben Martin converted
two, and fly-half Treeve Polglase one Leading 36-0 at the interval, before
the second half began the referee consulted both coaches about playing on, because
six unanswered tries had been scored by one side. However, both coaches were happy
to play continue, even with some small changes to the Pirates team, and to see
how things would go in the second period. Second half under way, the tries
flowed again, with Lockran Williams (2) and Tom Holdsworth adding to their tally.
Prop Ben Martin slotted one more conversion. On the advice of the coaches
the match was stopped 10 minutes early by referee Nigel Walters, who had a fine
first game with the whistle. Coaches Terry Coogan, Tony Richards, and Paul
Skinner would like to thank the whole squad for their dedication to training for
the first part of the season. The results are starting to show out on the field,
them commenting "Well done everyone, have a Happy Xmas and we will see
you all in the New Year."
