Dan Seal - 200 Games
There was special mention of prop forward Dan Seal, the club's longest playing
servant, who earlier in the season had played his 200th game for the Pirates, a remarkable figure for the professional era. The list of trophies
and winners, presented by Dicky Evans unless stated otherwise, was (in order)
as follows:- Community Player of the Year - Alan Paver.
Sponsored
by Speedy Hire, the deserved winner of this award was - Alan Paver. Travelling
Supporters Player of the Year and The Edwin Bryant Trophy - Iva Motusaga.
The
Travelling Supporters Player of the Year award and The Edwin Bryant Trophy for
the Press Gang Player of the Year went to the same person, a great servant to
the club both on and off the field who had just played his last game for the Pirates
- Iva Motusaga.
Edwin's widow, Carole, also presented Iva with a replica of
the trophy presented in her husband's memory. Most Improved Player -
Nicky Griffiths.
This award went to someone who has made a mighty impression
during his season at the Pirates - Nicky Griffiths. The Stirling Cup
for Commitment - Treve Stirling.
This
cup is presented annually in memory of John Stirling, this year presented to retiring
youth coach & John's son, Treve Stirling, who was completely taken aback.
He was also, understandably, immensely proud, as was his mum Wendy. Monckton
Cup for Achievement - Luke Cowan-Dickie
This award was presented by our special guest, Eric Tweedale, who played for the
Wallabies against Cornwall & Devon at Camborne in 1947. It was a case of one
international prop forward presenting a trophy to another, the award going to
Luke Cowan-Dickie, who has recently played for England U16s. Sportsman
of the Year - Iva Motusaga.
Climbing the steps to receive his third award
on the day was - Iva Motusaga.
Clubman of the Year - Scott Dugdale.
Scott Dugdale
a winner of this award in 2006, continues to apply himself in a
wholehearted manner as a committee member and driving force behind the Pirates
'Amateurs', as well as helping with the Colts. Roger
Pascoe Cup and the Player of the Year award - Heino Senekal.
The Roger
Pascoe Cup for the Supporters Player of the Year, and the Player of the Year award
as judged by club officials to Heino Senekal Heino has been
a tremendous servant since joining the Pirates in 2004, with this last season
being a particularly memorable for him. Playing his 100th game for the Pirates
was a milestone to remember, as was playing for the Barbarians. However, not even
those achievements could beat proudly becoming a dad! A letter received
from supporter Treive Nicholas described perfectly how people have appreciated
the winner's input. It said:
"I wanted to thank you for the many hours
of pleasure you have given me as a supporter. You have been a genuine servant
of the club giving us cracking performances on a regular basis, making life for
the opposition a real misery. You haven't hidden when the going gets tough and
your commitment to the cause has been magnificent offering real leadership to
the team through thick and thin. You shall be missed, and you are leaving a big
pair of boots to fill!"
The President's Cup - Chris Morgan
The final award was presented by club President Robin Turner, the tradition is
for it to be presented on the last home game of the season to the player, who,
in the President's opinion, has been the most outstanding contributor on the field
during the season.
Robin's choice for 2009 was well received,
