Bodmin 10 Pirates Amateurs 12
Saturday 19th September 2009
Playing a well contested 'friendly' match away to Bodmin, the Pirates Amateurs recorded a narrow win thanks to a late try scored by replacement hooker Ryan Stanley which was converted by Andrew Snell.
Starting the game at fly-half for the Pirates Amateurs was Tom Edwards who was making a welcome return to the game, whilst flanker George Pye was playing his last game before going to university.
Showing early dominance in the ruck and maul area, the visitors took the lead with an unconverted try scored by hooker Andrew Gwennap. However, the home side hit back before the interval and scored a converted try which put them ahead.
A successful penalty strike in the second half, when they had the advantage of the slope, enabled Bodmin to extend their lead, which brought a reaction from the Pirates to give the game more width.
Wing Kevin Walsh had what looked like a legitimate try disallowed, but the team's continued efforts were rewarded when Stanley made the line to level matters. The decisive conversion was taken by Snell, which proved a match-winner.
