Pirate Amateurs RFC 37 Launceston Castles 5

28th Nov 2009

Played in terrible conditions on the Mennaye Field the Pirates Amateurs dominated the early forward exchanges and after several scrums near the Launceston line a penalty try was awarded.

Immediately after the restart the Pirates scored again when the ball was taken by skipper Andrew Gwennap and shipped straight out to the backs. Fly-half Andrew Snell and centre Josh Oliver handled superbly, the movement ending with a try scored by scrum-half Trevelyan Dugdale.

Second-rows Rob Davies and Matt Nicholas had outstanding games, it no surprise that the latter powered over for a try. Snell also landed a conversion and a penalty before Launceston notched their one try in the match just before half-time to make the scoreline 20-5 at the break.

At the start of the second half replacements were brought on and further tries were scored by Mark Osborne, Dave Lawrence and young Murray Westren, playing his first game in five years, who beat two defenders to score under the posts.
