Newquay 2nds 15 Pirates Amateurs 8
23rd Jan 2010
Yes, the Pirates Amateurs lost away to Newquay 2nds in this match played at the Newquay Sports Centre, but there was still much to admire in their performance, especially considering the fact that due to apologised unavailbility and injury they had to play not just with 14 men but also with a number of players playing out of position.
Newquay opened up a 10-0 lead before a penalty just before half-time by Amateurs fly-half Murray Westren made it 10-3.
The home side extended their lead with a third try in the second half, but the Pirates never gave up hope.
In a seven man pack back-rower Mark Osborne was outstanding and the Pirates fully deserved their one try scored when scrum-half Kelvin James sent wing Danny Hewett to the line.
