Penryn Saracens 21-12 Pirates Amateurs
20th Feb 2010
Returning to Penryn, where they had played so well in a midweek performance against CSM, the Amateurs were disappointed in this result and self-critical of their performance.
The Amateurs actually got off to a great start in this Merit Table encounter, taking the lead with an early try set by centre Kelvin James whose run and pass enabled wing Danny Hewett to cross out wide.
However, it was a score that would prove to be the only one of the half, as both teams played out what was an even contest.
A converted intercept try by Penryn gave them the lead into the second half, but back came the Pirates with a try scored by full-back Rob Cutter and a conversion kicked by fly-half Murray Westren.
In what was always likely to be a closely fought encounter the home side nudged themselves back in front once more with a second converted try, and then added a third at the end to give them a deserved win.
