St.Just 7 Pirates Amateurs 35
Saturday 12th September 2009
In Saturday's blazing sunshine at Tregeseal, a good sized crowd witnessed a thoroughly entertaining game of rugby.
Starting the match well, the larger Pirates pack dominated the set pieces.
Three first half tries were scored through Andrew Gwennap, Rob Cutter and Kevin Walsh, with a penalty also added by fly-half Andrew Snell. It provided the visitors with a healthy half-time lead, but there was still much to admire in St. Just's effort, as their team was fully committed and defended outstandingly at the breakdown, turning the Pirates over on a number of occasions.
Both sides made numerous changes for the second half, when the tackling of Harvey Thomas and Steve Walsh stood out for the Tigers.
A try scored by St. Just's Robert Jose was well deserved, it converted by Simon Barnes, but the Pirates came back with tries scored by Ryan Stanley and former St.Just player Cutter once more, after the ball went skilfully through several phases of play.
