Played on the Mennaye Field in front of a large crowd this local derby did not disappoint, it a game played with pride and passion throughout.

The Pirates got off to a great start, first with a well taken try scored by scrum-half Trevelyan Dugdale, and then with a penalty try awarded through their dominance at the scrum. No. 8 Scott Powell slotted both conversions.

It looked a little worrying for the visitors, but to their credit they came back into the match and scored an excellent try of their own when outstanding flanker Tristan Hocking touched down at the clubhouse corner.

The Amateurs led 14-5 at the break, but were soon put under further pressure early in the second half when St. Just scored their second unconverted try through Rob Jose.

It was time for the home team to raise their game, and they did, and after winning a penalty just out from the posts Powell slotted the chance on offer to make it 17-10.

St. Just were still in touch and play was evenly matched until two late tries from full-back Rob Cutter, again converted by Powell, gave the Amateurs victory in what was one of the most physical games they had played all season.

The Pirates Amateurs will hopefully enter the Cornwall leagues next season and they will know what to expect week in week out.

St. Just had provided spirited and able opposition and have been keen to back the Pirates Amateurs in their quest for league rugby, as confirmed by the St. Just club and their skipper Tom McFadden.

A photo of the two teams was taken pre-match on Saturday, and a great evening was enjoyed by all in a full clubhouse after the game.

The Pirates Amateurs will know their future after a vote that is due to take place next Wednesday 5th May.
