Pirates Amateurs 10-13 St. Ives Reserves
30th Jan 2010
The Pirates Amateurs might have been well beaten by a very useful St. Ives team that featured a number of former county players, but such was their resilience that they kept up their effort throughout the game and ultimately finished the stronger.
With the scoreline reading 0-21 at half-time, supporters present might have expected St. Ives to walk away with it in the second half, as they had played some excellent rugby with fly-half Ian Sanders directing matters.
That the Pirates hit back with two unconverted tries was of great credit them, their performance also lifted with the introduction of some fresh legs off the bench. Replacement lock Jamie Barrett was driven over for a try near the posts, and flanker Andrew Snell crossed at the clubhouse corner following a well executed cross-field kick from scrum-half Kelvin James.
