PENRYN COLTS 10 PIRATES COLTS 21

28th Nov 2009

With only 14 players the Pirates Colts still recently managed to notch up their fourth victory on the bounce with a fine display on Penryn's rubber crumb pitch. For the second week running the match was played in a monsoon, but to their credit both sides coped admirably with the conditions to provide an entertaining game.

The first 20 minutes saw the Pirates defence hold off Penryn's very effective use of the driving maul, when suddenly, and against the run of play, Jack Nowell collected the ball on the halfway line and danced his way through Penryn's poor tackling to score a try under the posts that was converted by Kyle Moyle.

Having held their 7-0 lead to half-time, the Pirates extended it just two minutes into the second period when John Hunter crashed his way over for the game's second try. Moyle did well to add the conversion from a difficult angle.

Penryn came back into the game strongly and after a 10 minutes spell of pressure inside the Pirates '22', their driving maul at last brought brought reward with the first of their two tries scored in the match.

The 14 man Pirates looked to be tiring and Penryn's tails were up, until a loose pass by the home side fell onto the boot of Stevens who fly-hacked the ball 50 metres upfield. Nowell did well to lend support and he outpaced the Penryn defence to score at the posts. The reliable Moyle, who was playing with a broken finger, again added the extras to clinch a worthy victory.
