Pirates Colts 15 Redruth Colts 8
23rd Jan 2010 On a day when the Pirates Colts were able to field their strongest team of the season, they duly defeated the strong Redruth Colts team in a super contest played at the Mennaye Field. The inclusion of England representatives Jack Nowell (U17s) and Luke Cowan-Dickie (U18s), plus the return of No. 8 Jamie Barrett provided welcome boosts, as was the form of fly-half and man of the match Kyle Moyle, and the ever improving John Hunter. Kyle opened the scoring with a penalty on three minutes, but it was not long before the visiting Reds struck back with one of their own. A try scored by Barrett and converted by Moyle put the Pirates 10-3 up, it a lead they held to the break. A number of attacking opportunities had been wasted, with too many turn overs and penalties given away, but when they strung a few phases together the Pirates had played some of their best rugby of the season. Ben Robinson crossed for an unconverted try early in the second half, after which the home side's defensive display was outstanding. A try eventually scored in injury time gave Redruth a well earned bonus point, but on the day the win deservedly went to the Pirates. Pirates Colts:
J. Nowell, B. Clooney, L Cowan-Dickie, B Robinson, T. Daniels, K. Moyle, S.Stevens, J, Barrett, D. Toolan (c), A. Hutchins, C. Butler, J.Hunter, K. Brownfield, J. Nicholls, J. Lugg. Replacements (all used): O. Monk, J. Badcock, M. Dove. Scorers – tries: Barrett, Robinson; con: Moyle; pen: Moyle. The Pirates Colts next game is at home this coming Saturday 30th January.
