Luke Cowan-Dickie, who plays for the Pirates Colts, has been called up by England U18s to play against France at Newbury on Sunday.
One of seven changes from the team that beat Australian Schools at Sale in December, Luke was first capped for England at U16s levels last season. The announcement of Luke's selection follows the news in January that another member of the Pirates Colts, full-back/centre Jack Nowell had been selected for the England U17s squad. Following a recent Pirates Colts match at the Mennaye Field, Penzance, the opportunity was taken to present a cheque for the sum of £300 to Penny Coombs, who was representing Macmillan Cancer Relief.
The money was raised for the charity when a Pirates Holiday XV played the annual match against Brooksy's Barbarians on Boxing Day, which provided another example of Penzance & Newlyn RFC's players and officials responding to provide charitable community support.

A product of the Pirates Mini-Junior Section, Darren Hicks, led the Pirates Amateurs to victory at St. Just on Saturday before departing later this month for a military tour to Afghanistan with the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards.
Darren has been in the Army for 10 years, and he has always enjoyed his rugby. Stalwart 'Pirate' Paul Greaves, who fondly remembers coaching Darren at Colts level, has welcomed the opportunity to have coached him again more recently. |

22nd August 09 | | | | Playing
their perceived first ever game last Saturday as the Pirates Amateurs RFC, a pre-season
friendly match away to Perranporth was won 7-5. The game was as close as the result
indicates, it a hard and sporting contest when the visiting forwards just about
had the edge. Hooker Andrew Gwennap scored
the try for the Pirates, with fly-half Andrew Snell's conversion proving decisive.
