May
13th 2009 Having topped the CRFU's Official 2nd and 3rd
XV Merit Table One this season, the Penzance & Newlyn RFC 'Amateurs' have
applied to be admitted into the newly constituted Cornwall League for next season.
Acceptance
would enable them to attain a full complement of fixtures, which is something
they have missed out on, as too many clubs have cancelled fixtures (league and
friendly) against them. The side has been existence for
three years, and is made up wholly of amateur players, young and old, whose only
wish is to play and enjoy their rugby. An application for
league status has been made before, but was not given backing through the Cornwall
RFU. It is disappointing that, once again, the hierarchy of the Cornwall RFU appear
unsupportive. However, as there are other such teams about
the country that have apparently been given permission in the past, and who play
in England's league structure, it is hoped that this latest application will be
favourably received by other Cornish Clubs. |
