Ann Passes Away
By Phil Westren
It is with sadness that news was received last Wednesday that Annie Matthews, the wife of former Penzance & Newlyn RFC player and official Harry, had passed away peacefully at the St. Martin's House care home in Camborne.
Born in Essex, after moving to Newlyn to live during the second World War, Annie, or 'Ann' as she was known, later started work at J. H. Bennetts Ltd., in the same week as Harry began his long association with the well-known local firm, where he became company secretary.
Ann was a loving mother to children Linda (deceased), John, Nicky and Robert, and a supportive wife to a Harry who has lived a busy life serving the the community in a number of ways.
The 'Matthews' home in Mennaye Road is close to the Pirates 'Westholme' clubhouse and in later years Ann enjoyed being a member of the Pirates Bridge Club.
Condolences from all Pirates are expressed to Harry and the family.
The funeral service will take place at Treswithian Downs Crematorium, near Camborne, on Thursday 17th November at 10am.
