A former Pirates player, Terry Eagland, recently passed away aged 77.

Penzance-born Terry worked for the Western National Bus Company at Wherrytown and then spent eight years serving in the Royal Navy from 1949. He married Betty in 1955, and from 1958 worked for C. Shippam Ltd, which was based in Newlyn, remaining in their employ until his retirement.

<

A devoted rugby fan all his life, Terry, a tight five forward, played a total of 186 games for the Pirates between 1957 and 1968.

He was very proud to have have represented the club on so many occasions, and especially so when presented his merit tie for having reached the 100 games milestone in 1961/62.

When his playing days were over, he loved to watch rugby, especially at the Mennaye Field, but also enjoyed occasional trips to watch England play at Twickenham.

On New Year's Day, 2005, he and Betty, who died in 2006, celebrated their golden wedding. The couple had two daughters, Sue and Kim, and six grandchildren.
