Former Secretary 'Tony' Passes Away
By Phil Westren
A former Honorary Secretary of Penzance & Newlyn RFC, Tony Blewett, has passed away in France, aged 71.
Tony held the office of Secretary from 1994-97, at a time when his wife Karen also served the Pirates as Clubhouse Administrator, and he was later elected as the first Chairman of Mounts Bay RFC.
Having played a number of games for the Pirates in the early 1960s, Tony was a telephone engineer who also enjoyed fishing and was at one time the Chairman of the Mount's Bay Angling Society. He was charitable in spirit, as was evident when he spent a period of time in Romania, helping to install old telephone systems in orphanages.
When Karen and Tony left Cornwall a few years back to live in the French village of Verneuil-Moustiers, which is in the Limousin region of west-central France, they quickly integrated into the small local community, making many friends. Tony became a councillor, he enjoyed painting, and he also fished, passing his rod and line skills onto youngsters.
Following cremation, a gathering to celebrate Tony's life will take place in France, whilst in the meantime condolences are expressed to Karen and all members of the family.
