The Young Enterprise Mission is a scheme that was set up in the 1960s with the
aim to inspire and equip young people to learn and succeed through enterprise.
It is a challenge that has been taken up by 15 pupils from Mounts Bay School.
All
year 10 students, they have set up a business called 'Qube', that has its own
elected board members who meet regularly and take on specific roles within the
'company'.
Cornish Pirates Stan McKeen and Heino Senekal attended St Mawgan School this week
as part of Cornish Pirates drive to cover all of Cornwall.
Organised by
club sponsor Pete McGahan of Worldwide Finance, Stan and Heino did some rugby
coaching and answered questions from the children about playing rugby, and the
World Cup.
Cornish Pirates EDF Energy Programme has gone up another gear this week, with
the Pirates players going to assist the coaching sessions at the participating
schools. Simon Whatling, Adryan Winnan, Peter Cook and Heino Senekal all made
trips to the schools involved, passing on tips about how they became professional
players, how best to play tag rugby, and generally just getting involved, meeting
the kids and signing autographs.
Five pupils from Humphry Davy School spent the first week of their Summer Holiday
at The Pirates Learning Zone designing and creating a stained glass window inspired
by the impact of rugby in Cornwall.
Victoria Reid, professional stained
glass artist, whose work includes the window at Trinity Community Centre, Newlyn,
said, 'The students were very imaginative and knew exactly what they felt would
represent the importance of both sport and living in Cornwall
Cornish Pirates stars Ali Koko and Matt Evans took part in a special session at
Cornwall College's Camborne site last week, when they were the main event at a
SMART (School Multi Agency Resource Team) day.
