Duncan Roke - Centre

Duncan Roke -  Centre

Duncan Roke arrived in Cornwall late in his rugby career having already experienced life with Henley, Leicester and Worcester Warriors as well as being honoured by the Barbarians and had achieved prominence in the England Sevens Squad.

Jim McKay could readily appreciate what a scheming midfield back with excellent hands and an acute rugby brain could do for the Pirates and Duncan proved to be one of his very best signings.

In fact it is arguable whether the squad has ever quite replaced him.

Roke could also fill in at full back and captained the team on a few occasions but, after playing a major part in the EDF win at Twickenham and approaching thirty two, he decided to return northwards and gave up professional rugby.

He can still be seen at Pirates matches in the Midlands to underline the saying "Once a Pirate always a Pirate"
