Chris Cracknell was a dashing flanker who first gained international schoolboy honours and then had a spell with the Harlequins.

He was spotted by the Pirates whilst starring against them in an otherwise rather limited Newbury team.

On the strength of this he was signed by Jim McKay and he soon became a try scoring crowd favourite.

Chris Cracknell - Flanker

His first season was disrupted by injuries but in the second he was a regular and came off the bench to star in the last breathless minutes of the EDF triumph at Twickenham.

After two colourful seasons at Camborne he joined Gareth Steenson in decamping to Exeter Chiefs where he found his opportunities rather limited in a huge squad of nearly fifty professionals.

He then had a spell with Worcester Warriors but sadly left under a bit of a cloud when he got himself involved in an unseemly brawl following their relegation.

‘Crackers‘ main forte, however, was rugby sevens and as a regular member of the England Sevens team he represented his country with distinction all over the globe on numerous occasions.
