Big East Anglian Joe Beardshaw was the central core to the Pirates pack for several seasons.
As an outstanding schoolboy at Gresham’s School he had played in the same England Schools team as Tom Barlow and Joe Worsley.
Having left school he obtained a BSc in Ergonomics, played some club rugby in New Zealand and then followed Worsley to the Wasps where he made numerous appearances in the Premiership.
He then had a season with Glasgow in the Magner’s League before joining the Pirates in 2005 on their move to Truro.
He was a virtual ever-present in the side over the next two and a half years (usually alongside first Will James and then Heino Senekal) and played a key role in the EDF win at Twickenham in 2007.
Tragically he suffered a serious leg injury in December 2007 at Camborne when at the height of his powers. He never played again.
