Canadian flanker Stan McKeen had already played for his country in the Churchill Cup when he signed for the Pirates in 2006.

Big, strong and with a highly intelligent rugby brain, Stan slotted in alongside South African Matt Evans and Kiwis Iva Motusaga and Tim Cowley to make for some very international looking back row combinations.

Stan McKeen - Flanker

That first season went superbly for Stan who had an outstanding match at Camborne in the autumn when Exeter were soundly defeated and he then played a major role in taking the Pirates to Twickenham and indeed in the Final victory itself.

That summer he was picked to play for Canada against the full All Blacks in New Zealand but suffered a bad injury midway through the game which sadly put him out of contention for the 2007 World Cup.

Furthermore the following season was a highly frustrating one for Stan who thus only managed one start and one replacement appearance during the entire campaign.

He then moved on to take a postgraduate degree at Oxford University where he won three ‘Blues’ in succession.
