When Kevin Moseley signed South African Matt Evans from Worcester he appeared to have unearthed a real star as Matt’s first few games in a Pirate shirt were sensational.

However after just a handful of games his progress was cut short cruelly by a severe leg injury at Nottingham which ruled him out for the rest of the season.

He fought his way back to play the next two years but sadly missed out on the EDF Final at Twickenham with yet another injury to be followed by a second serious one at Coventry a fortnight later.

Once again the courageous Matt fought his way back to fitness and the loyal and persistent Number 8 gave another two years exemplary service although no longer first choice in relation to Tim Cowley and latterly Blair Cowan.

A fine sportsman, with a little more luck he might have achieved even more.

Matt finally left to go to University in London where he joined an up-and-coming Ealing team and helped them to win promotion.
